Ring, bangle and chain sizing — how to measure at home, and what to do if a piece you already own does not fit.

How to measure

Four ways to get it right

1
STEP 1

Measure what you already wear

Take a ring or bangle that fits the right finger or hand and measure its INSIDE diameter in millimetres. This is more reliable than measuring the finger itself.

2
STEP 2

Or wrap a strip of paper

Wrap a thin strip snugly around the finger or over the widest part of the hand, mark where it overlaps, and measure the length in millimetres — that is the circumference.

3
STEP 3

Measure at the end of the day

Fingers and hands swell slightly as the day goes on and in warm weather. A size taken in the evening is the one that will be comfortable most of the time.

Chain & necklace lengths

Where each length tends to sit. Layering looks best with about two inches between pieces.

16 inches

Sits at the base of the neck — a classic choker length.

18 inches

Sits just below the collarbone. The most-worn length.

20 inches

Sits a little below the collarbone, good over a high neckline.

22 inches

Sits at the top of the neckline on most people.

24 inches

Sits mid-chest — the usual mangalsutra length.

30 inches

A long chain, worn on its own or doubled.
